We are currently using CE 3.5 database for our client (development). Due to various reason, we are not very happy with it (how can somebody make a database that doesn't support views?!).

Can anybody recommend a better alternative? It should work smoothly with LGP though since we would like to stick to it.

Is Firebird a good alternative? We would strongly consider SQLite, but LGP doesn't support it and as far as I understand, it will also not do it in v3.0, right?

AFAIK, Firebird is a better alternatve, many of our customers are using it.
