Microsoft is showing off its future plans for Integrated Query Framework. This is slanted for VB.NET 9.0 and C# 3.0. http://www.computerworld.com.au/index.php/id;334538217;fp;16;fpid;0

The funny thing that crosses my mind as I read this article, that instead of coming out and calling this framework as an ORM framework, Ms choose to call it

tie programming languages and database queries without making them SQL-specific

I gues Ms is very wary of fighting their own

I know their plans, but I have to see if it will ever see the light of day, especially because Comega is very complex, and not very appealing to people. Also, their WinFS system goes into a certain direction and I have my doubts these will be compatible (but have to, eventually). What I do know is that one of the objectspaces people now works on the C# compiler, so it's not a surprise perhaps some of the o/r mapping techniques will enter the C# world, but at the same time... I'm not sure it should be in the language. I mean: just add custom operator support and you're done. simple_smile

They don't call it O/R mapping cause it is not specifically for releational databases. This is supposed to be ubiquitius for any type of data, relational, XML, text files, images, documents, etc.

Now, Object Spaces is MS's O/R mapper. It was supposed to be merged as part of WinFS. They just released WinFS Beta 1, I wonder if Object Spaces is still part of it. Anyone know?
