Whenever I read about people raving about FireFox and how it is a new experience in internet browsing, I thought what are these people talking about?? a browse is just a browser !!

well.. I am wrong? FireFox is a true different type of a browser and I love it. What about the rest of you guys, what do you think ?? sunglasses

P.S. if you give FireFox a try, then make sure you use it with Charamel theme. I always thought those default fonts were corny

Yea, it's way cool sunglasses ...

I like Noia 2.0 myself.

The only bummer, and this is a big bummer, is that the Infragistic asp controls are not supported for Firefox cry . Actually, I think they did get the grid working confused , but the rest of the controls don't render very well. disappointed

Yeah, and my bank barks at me if I try to do things with my non IE browser. Other than that, I love it. I use the developer tool bar every day to disect my CSS and what not. It is crucial to helping me figure out where I went wrong.

If you don't know about the developer toolbar, install using the custom option and you'll be able to install it.

I use firefox since 0.7 or so, great browser simple_smile

Especially with some nice extensions simple_smile -> Adblock, Launchy, CustomizeGoogle and ResizableTextarea. Especially the last one is great, no more small textarea boxes on microsoft sites simple_smile

Well, I just like things that work. For me, IE has never failed and already you guys have said how FireFox has issues with a lot of sites. Perhaps that's IE's fault for being fuxored from the get go but you can never argue with what works the best.

Spyware you say? Adware you say? Haxors you say? Not if you know how to use and maintain a computer. IE still starts up faster than FireFox or NS on my computer too.

FireFox wins on extensibility at the moment, but I wonder how true that will be when IE7 comes out? MS has already said that IE won't pass the ACID test, but only at release time. They'll be compliant shortly I'm sure. Couple all of that with "Vista" and I see no reason to convert.

In fact, I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that FireFox is any safer than IE. I wish I could find a good source for this information, but I'm pretty sure FireFox/Mozilla have had just as many issues over the past 12 months as IE.

And while I'm at it.... ANTIVIRUS SCHMANTIVIRUS!!!!!!

BRING IT ON!!!! simple_smile

Lol simple_smile

Faster, Easier, Safer.

I have to go with my experience thus far. Tabbed browsing is the shiznit - no more 5 gazillion buttons on the taskbar (or having to wait for grouping to kick in).

No more weirdness with other programs (namely VS help) that gets "fixed" by clearing the IE cache.

No more weird iexplore.exe process hanging out eating memory even when I've shut it down.

The "SessionSaver2" extension which keeps all of my tabs and their locations (and history) saved when I close Firefox, so that when I reopen it I get them all back is awesome.

All IE incompatibility issues are mitigated by the "Show in IE" extension. Although, honestly, it's rare I run into a site like that.

I love it. Come into the light, Alex. stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye smile

Firefox is nice, but i use Maxthon (app that uses IE engine). Maxthon allows me to use 90% of the functions of firefox but with the IE engine. I'll use Firefox more when it becomes the "standard" browser. I may be in the minority, but I personally enjoy only have to code for 1 browser (for the most part).

I hadn't paid much attention to firefox untill I read this posting - mainly because our web app is IE only wink

But...I read this post, decided to spend a little time with firefox, and I love it!!!! Just little things like hit Ctrl-F to find text, and the nice bar appears instead of the obtrusive dialog box in IE - its great!!

The only problem...treeview when on MSDN site for example seems to be 'mature' in IE then firefox.

Would love to hear from anyone who has 'fixed' this.

I started using Firefox when it was version 0.9. I like it because of the tabs - that makes my live really easier.

My wife use to use IE - she loves to play these FREE! arcade games from "Pop Corn" and other online games... well one day i tried to use her PC - gee was it slow. So i ran Spybot and then MS Anti-Spyware on it I was shocked to find all kinds of crap spyware on her PC. So i made her install and use Firefox.

Since then no more spyware simple_smile Every now and again Firefox comes up with a message that the website wants to install some dll - but atleast firefox tells you while IE just allows it.

So if anybody ever wonders hmm...where did all those "Grab a granny" (Porn) links in my favourites come from - Let you know that it is because of IE.

Service Pack 2 for XP will prevent all of that gobbly goo from getting installed automatically.

Next please. simple_smile

no not really. Most spyware which is publically promoted such as coolwebsearch, is signed nowadays, which pops up a nice 'it's safe to install!' popup in IE for that activeX.

How is that any different from the popup in FireFox that tells you something is trying to install automatically?

Microsoft must be worried about firefox, it forced them to do a U-turn with their plans to leave IE7 tied into the OS of Windows Vista !!

Alex, give it a go - its liberating wink Its nicer to use, faster, lighter (takes half the memory resources as IE), expandable, themable, and just generally funky sunglasses

I'm deliberatly side-stepped the spyware issues because to be honest I've never had a problem with either browsers - I run adaware and that usually sorts any probs out, although I'd bet money that IE was miles more vulnerable....

Alright fine.. I'll use it for the remained of today and this week. I've already downloaded a ton of pretty cool extensions, but I'm still skeptical. Things are just different in this browser so it may take some time getting used to.

The reason I started playing with it was becuase I needed to resize my window to 800x600 easily and I knew FF could do that. Shortly after getting it to work I found that, in IE, you can type javascript:resizeTo(800,600) in the address bar to do the same thing though.

I keep a few of those at the top of my favourites, 800x600, 1024x768 & 1600x1200. Very handy simple_smile
