Hi,

Maybe not the right place to post this problem, but maybe one of you experienced the same problem.

I want to open the referencemanual of LLBLGEN PRO but i got a "the page cannot be displayed" message in the right pane. The left pane with the contents shows the right subjects, no problem there When I want to display a specific subject I got the Internet explorer message stated herebove.

The LLBLGEN Pro documentation is working just fine. (I am using the chm file)

I have downloaded the reference manual but no luck.

Is the error related with the installation of LLBLGEN pro or is this a system related error.

On another computer I got the same error. Maybe something to do with the CHM file ?

Can someone please help.

Thanks

Geert

I can open it just fine. Could you please download the latest .chm file from the customer area -> documentation and try again? Thanks.

No luck, cry

I find it very strange. Something to do with settings in internet explorer. ?

The strangest thing is that the "LLBLGEN PRO documentation" CHM file will open without any problem .

I do not have any clue about the problem. confused

You click on any link in the left menu and no page opens? That's indeed very strange.

I don't think IE settings matter, as the help is viewed with HH.exe (which embeds IE) (as any .chm does). Though do you load the file from a network drive? perhaps that's the problem (wild guess).

I'd love to, but I think the PDF will become extremely large, and also it will be very hard to search through. As the chm is generated by ndoc, so is the sdk chm reference manual. Can you open that one?

Btw, do you have the msdn/.net 1.1 sdk docs on your machine? And has it worked before ?

Yes I have the "Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 " installed.

and Yes it has worked before.

I tested it on another machine, And it worked fine So something to do with some settings on my laptop.

I don't know where to start.

I will search the internet with similar problems.

I will keep you posted.

Found it

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902225/en-us

Maybe something to distribute to your customers, because this will for sure be something that they will encounter.

Thanks for all the effort

Keep up the good work ! simple_smile

Glad it's solved now. Thanks for digging up the solution. I'll create a FAQ item about this.

I have never been able to open the .CHM file. Yes I can open the documentation just fine. Can't open the Reference Manual. I have read that Article, and followed the steps to unblock it.

What I get is a recursive loop I open it, See an action cancelled IE window, and then it asks me if I want to open or download the exact same file I tried to open.

Any ideas?

I can't reproduce this, although I tried on Windows Server 2003 SP1, with the security update 896358

WHich ref. manual do you open? .net 1.x or .net 2.0 (chm version) ?

it is the .Net 2.0 chm available from the support page on your web site.

I can open that one just fine... Could you delete the file locally and re-download it? Perhaps it got corrupted.. Does it also fail on other PCs?

Yeah, my boss can open it just fine, but he has a virigin box fresh from dell. There is some specific setting or switch that I need to flip to turn this thing on. I am downloading all updates from windows update right now. In addition, I am setting my IE settings back to default, I am hoping that this will fix the problem, I will let you know.

In now way am I insinuating that there is something wrong with the file that you published, and clearly if it is working on some boxes and not on others it is OS related, the likes of which supporting is way outside of your charter. This is something that a lot of other users are experiencing in addition to myself. Perhaps there is some sort of middle ground?

I will keep you updated if I find a solution.

Yeah... over 150 now !!

Thanks for tracing this down, since we can't reproduce it, and wish you can find the cause and the resolution for all those viewers sake and for the future ones too.

Did Windows Update, and reset IE back to defaults thinking security might have been a problem and still no go.

I did get the sucker open finally. For some reason the folder that winzip creates keeps the file from opening. When I move the file to my desktop it opens up fine. I could find no discrepencies at all between the folder that winzip created, and the one that I have the file in now. I can reproduce at will by trying to open the file inside the folder winzip created. Then copy it out of that folder to some other folder, and then opening the file, it works every time.

Hope that helps.

If you placed the Zip file on your desktop and unzip it (let it create the folder), will it open from the folder inside the desktop?!

It must be some permissions set somewhere.

Nope. I have to copy the file out of the folder Winzip creates, and put it on the desktop, then it opens fine. Just does not like the folder winzip is creating.

Process 1. Download Zip to desktop. 2. Extract all files to desktop. 3. Open Extracted Folder. 4. Double click the chm. 5. Get Error! 6. Copy file from current folder to desktop. 7. Open file. 8. No Error, File opens correctly.

Mind you, this only happened after I ran all the windows updates to get me up to date. I have no idea if this would have solved the problem before hand, my guess is that it would.

The problem is the way IE marks downloaded files. I can't remember the term, but it 'blocks' them somehow. If you unzip a 'blocked' zip file, all files within are marked as blocked and won't be read by other apps. That's why you can open the CHM but can't see any of the rest.

Download the zip file, get properties of it, click the 'Unblock' button in the lower right-hand corner, dismiss the dialog, then open/unzip as usual. Things will work fine after that.

I'm in the habit now of unblocking after every download. I'm sure there's a way (it's called FireFox) to prevent this.

edit: Frans, there is nothing you can do to prevent this, it's just something users need to be aware of and deal with. It's an IE thing, and it happens to all downloaded zip files.

I am aware of this issue. And I should have had it in my original list of steps to reproduce. Unblocking the Zip, then extracting. There is no Unblock on the extracted folder or file. If I open it, I get the error (recursive loop asking me to open the file I just tried to open). If I take the file out of the folder, it works fine. There is something about taking the file out of the folder that winzip creates that let's the chm work like it is supposed to.
