More a problem of controlling growth than anything. In order to meet demand, Blizzard decided to move servers over to a new/different cluster arrangement and didn't have it quite dialed in yet. Thus became the bad experience over the weekend.

I can't believe that Penny Arcade would revoke their nomination for Game of the Year over that. Doesn't make sense to me at all. Yes, I'm sure it can be frustrating to not be able to get into the game, but as your frustration is going be proportional to the level of enjoyment you receive from the game, I can't believe one would choose to demote the game because of a weekend of problems.

This isn't like some online games where the game isn't even playable on a consistent basis, it was a weekend for goodness sakes, and only on isolated servers. They should have controlled growth better, done better capacity planning, and piloted the new cluster configuration on a single server....anway....

Blizzard even gave everyone a 2 day credit for the downtime...not much, I know, but a good faith effort to sooth the natives...

Hmm, what I understood from the article is that no new gamers are accepted, which means that people who want to play it, can't. But that's the price for being succesful I think wink
