Frans, what's the deal with the Dutch TV talk show hosted by the American? He talks to the guests in English and there are Dutch subtitles.

I have a vague memory of such a show but I never watched it as the host wasn't funny at all while he tried real hard. Yes it was an english spoken show with dutch people in the audience. A lot of people can understand english fairly well here

I've seen it a couple of times over here. It is very much as you say, the host tried to be funny, but often wasn't.

It amazes me how many people all over the world speak English so well now.

I do speak afrikaans, I am not sure if the people from holland would understand afrikaans a 100%. Afrikaans and Dutch does sound simular sometimes but only if you pronounce the words at the same speed. The dutch tend to speak much faster. The spelling is also totally different. Funny how a language can change in 350 years.
