Many people have noted the difficulty of pronouncing the current name. I have taken to just saying "GenPro" for short. One of these days Frans will approach critical mass and want to release a new version of the product and start charging a fair price (something more like $499 USD per developer rather than $210 USD per department), I figure this will be about six months before Microsoft buys him out, but anyway at that point for sure he'll need a new name for the product. So I think people should start posting their suggestions here. I think of LLBLGenPro as being an Object Relational Mapper on Steroids, so here's my shot:

Heh smile

The problem with a new name is: you have to start from scratch with telling everybody who you are, what you do and why the product is so great, because it's not related to a name a lot ofpeople already know. So when it comes to marketing, there is no worse action you can take than to change the name of a succesful product simple_smile (so we're stuck with it, I'm afraid. But then again, it's a name which doesn't match with competitor's products and doesn't embed a technique's name (which can make the name go stale) so, it's a real strong name also, (although not that pronouncable, admitted wink ).

We haven't decided yet what we'll do with the name next year but it's likely it will stay the same.

I agree with both of these statements. LLBL Gen Pro isn't the fastest spoken name ever, but it's easy enough to type, recognize, and remember. I wouldn't change the name unless you were forced to (or some blinding message from the heavens puts a new name in your head that you can't prevent from replacing the current name).

Good point. I thought it was a mistake for Borland to change their name, despite all their problems. I guess someone felt the same way I did since they changed it back.

LLBLGen....very easy to type, very hard to say simple_smile

Erm, some developers at my place have started calling it LL Cool J. How about that for a future release!! Most of the time I call it "that cool DAL generator thingy" simple_smile

I too often refer to it internally as "our code generator" or "my code gen tool", Frans, hope you dont mind me being too posessive of your fine work.

This discussion is completely lost on me... smile

Maybe it's a language thing, but I say "L... L... B... L... Gen" and it just rolls off the tongue. simple_smile

I don't know anyone else who says it any other way... Easy stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye
