I would find it helpful if an option was added to the forum to allow a personal message to be send to a member. The email address shouldn't be revealed of course but being able to contact somebody directly can be very helpful.

Usually if a member would like to be contacted, they provide a website or something where you could get in touch with them (for me its my website).

I agree with Seth. If someone wants to be contacted, s/he already has the option to reveal several ways to be contacted. If you can't contact a person, open a helpdesk thread and ask us if we could contact a user.
