Just think about the complexity of working for Despair, Inc.

Do they hold demotivational meetings for their employees? What disincentive packages do they offer? Can you be fired for having a positive attitude?

Imagine interviewing for a job. Do you strike a positive tone, or bring it down in order to fit in? Do you answer the question, "What was your greatest failure at your last job" with a note of pride? Shame when describing your successes? Do you leave your M.B.A. off your resume to enhance your chances of a placement?

My brain hurts!

Yeh, be misserable if you get paid to much and be happy about working over weekends. stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye

Im going to look at cars today, my 1996 Opel Astra is starting to give problems. And i want to get rid of it while i can still get some money for it. I enjoy looking at cars, but cars are so expensive here - Double the price of cars in the UK.

Opel Astra... I had one for 4 weeks once when I was a consultant at CMG. At 120 KM/h the oil pump broke in half, losing all the oil on the highway... (it was a brand new car simple_smile ). The mechanic picking me up: "Oh, that happens in every 100,000 cars".... but I'll never drive an Opel again (although the car wasn't that bad).

You'd expect that major car manufacturers would have factories on the african continent as well, to safe shipping costs. Also, aren't korean and japanese cars less expensive there, as the shipping costs for these is 1/2 the costs of shipping them to europe simple_smile

Thats the shocker, they do have factories in SA. Opel, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Ford and Isuzu are manuafactured in Port Elizabeth. Ford has the minority of the market and only have their bottom range cars here. Toyota does not have a factory here as far as i know.

Toyota is japense they have majority of the market followed by Opel, but the toyota corrola is in the same price range as the opel astra, the rest of the japense and korean cars Dawoo and Hyuandia (mind spelling) do not have any resel value and is also not very reliable. Hyuandia went under about 2 years ago in SA and was bought by another car manufacturer. There was no local parts for them until beginning of this year.

A Opel astra 1.6 and Toyota Carolla is roughly R 170 000 here that is 21 250 Euros devide by 8 i think.

whoa... indeed weird. Well, perhaps the SA government does what the Dutch government does: add a large percentage to the price of the car for environment taxes. (I'm ok with that, but it makes hte car much more expensive, think 20+ %)

That's about the price here (slightly lower here)

So what type of automobile do you have?

I might wait till Jan 2005 before buying a car, seeing that my work enviroment is very unstable at the momment.

But i did find 3 secondhand cars that i like: 1. 2001 Renault Cliio 1.6 Sport - R 103 000 2. 2001 Opel Astra 1.6 CDE - R 89 000 3. 2001 Opel Astra 1.6 CDE - R 79 000

As i said "I might wait" but also dont want to "wait"...if you know what i mean.simple_smile

heh simple_smile . Well the value of a car (except when it's a ferrari) is degrading by the minute, so if you are unsure about your income situation, don't buy a car simple_smile
