When I do a forum search, each row returned takes up the full screen width but the Thread column truncates some of its results leaving a lot of whitespace. Also the Forum and Last post columns are twice as wide as their widest content.

I know nothing about web stuff but couldn't that table have its Forum and Last Post columns set to be as wide as its widest content and the Thread column take up the remainder and wrap rather than truncate? Like the main forum threads do?

Cheers Simon

That indeed would solve it. It's now truncated to prevent wicked wrapping of long thread names. We haven't updated the code of HnD in a while (it's here: https://github.com/SolutionsDesign/HnD ). We should migrate it to a more modern design, but time constraints permits this so I don't think we've time to fix this issue any time soon, I'm afraid. I'll log it in the issues at github.
